Weekly Roundup: The Big Read on Kamala, Plus Strange Fates, "Karma" & the Sinking of the Bayesian Superyacht
Week ending 24th and 25th August 2024
Quite a strange week, this one, really. News here in the UK was dominated by the sinking in a freak storm of the Bayesian superyacht off the coast of Sicily (since most of its high profile passengers were British), whereas of course, top news in the US was the Democratic National Convention, where Kamala Harris officially accepted the Democrat nomination.
Decks used this week were the Russian Gypsy Oracle cards, Piatnik’s Traditional Ziguener Fortune Telling Cards, the Gilded Reverie Lenormand, the Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards, and the Italian classic la Vera Sibilla.
Since we took a look at playing card references in that last reading, and if you’re interested in Sibilla oracle cards, be aware I’m going to start looking at the corresponding French Sibylle des Salons playing card references over the weekend, so do look out for that initial post if this is something that’s your bag.
Spreads used this week included a classic 9-Card Box Spread, the Inquiry Layout, a Gypsy Witch 52-card “Long Read”, and a traditional Cross layout. Remind yourself of how to lay and read some of those by clicking on the buttons below:
So what do we make of this week’s readings, and how accurate (or not) did they seem to be?
Let’s take a look!
The Readings
This Week: Too Much Fire & Haste Brings Embarrassing Back-Off, But Someone'll Rise To The Challenge In A Crisis
This week’s spread shows someone having to wait a long time before earned money or value appears, although it eventually will do. A delayed payout, perhaps. Meanwhile, passions will be running high and someone will experience a prick to their pride. There appears to be a reconciliation on the cards after a family quarrel and someone will be shown to be much beloved, with success evident in their romantic relationships. That said, if an individual wants their freedom, they are going to have to create the bridge themselves between where they are now and where they want to be. There’s a warning, too, that rushing things and being overhasty will spoil things;”haste often defeats the business” as the cards put it. So rushed solutions will not work out in general.
Overall, the week involves that warning about not being overhasty, as someone will have to go back on any “too-bold” steps they’ve made as a result, which may prove embarrassing. There is some sort of predicament indicated, where balance is required to come out of it unscathed, but eventually, good will outweigh evil. And in a tricky moment, we’ll see somebody rising to the surface instead of sinking, perhaps increasing their value, possibly in trade matters. At the same time, someone needs to watch out for those immediately surrounding them as there may be enemies or spies close by, although they will eventually come good and enjoy success in all affairs.
Bit unfortunate, this one, especially the part about someone “rising to the surface especially on the sea” given that was literally about to happen. I haven’t been taking much notice of Harry and Meghan of late (beyond tedious as a saga now) but did wonder if some of the early parts of this prediction might be related to them. Otherwise, I couldn’t really see what it referred to. That said, adoring feelings certainly seemed to be running high at the Dems Convention, with a teary-eyed Joe saying his goodbyes (a prick to the pride? Or is that more likely to be Trump, seething away in the background until the errant Kennedy put his support behind him instead of the Dems), big crowd-pleasing speeches from the Obamas and Walz. So there’s certainly been a “happy family” feel around (except for the Kennedys, of course), but I’m not sure about the “hasty” warning, as I’ve not seen any major backtracking. The only predicament I could see was literally the tragedy of the boat where, alas, balance was the key issue when it was hit by a freak waterspout; it sank in less than a minute with the loss of seven lives, one of whom was an 18-year old girl about to start university. RIP.
The rest of the week starts with a reading which I didn’t necessarily intend to connect to that, more issues of weird fate and karma (Bayesian was named after the probability theorem, and it was a freakish coincidence that one just-won defendant in a big fraud case sadly died on the yacht, but his fellow defendant also died over the weekend back in England after being hit by a car. Conspiracy theories naturally abound, but I think it’s more likely that investigations will end up focusing on the mechanics of the boat and whether there was human error). We also then did a “big read” of 52-cards on Kamala, and a look overall at the tone of the speeches at the conference.
Let’s take a closer look.
