Wednesday: Well-Regarded Older Man Sweeps In To Show Support & Bolster Historical Alliance Against Enemy
Wednesday 22nd February 2023
Today’s reading is with the Blue Bird Lenormand deck. This is one of the few decks with verse insets intended to convey the meaning of the cards, at least according to that deck’s designer. They broadly align with the original Lenormand cards’ “Philippe Lenormand” instructions ( purported to be from a descendant of the infamous Mlle Lenormand herself, despite the association with her with these cards being more of a marketing ploy by the German manufacturers than anything else) but it does make them rather inflexible in some ways. This deck works well in a Grand Tableau where you’re trying out strictly traditional ways of reading.
So. The card at the centre is the Cavalier (Rider), meaning, in the case of my reading Upcoming News, A Person Riding In (and unlike the inset on this version of the cards, in my and many other readers’ experience, I wouldn’t agree that the Rider always means “good news”. Just “something being delivered, or that’s upcoming or someone new riding onto the scene.”)
Here are the rest of the cards for today’s reading.
At The Centre:
Cavalier (Rider): News being delivered, but also someone sweeping in to save the day.
Moon: Emotions, regard and great honours
There’ll be news of someone sweeping in who is well thought of and given great honours, held in high regard, perhaps with adulation.
Top Row, More Detail:
Gentleman: A particular important man.
Stars: Hope, dreams.
Dog: Friendship, alliance, support.
The support of a particular important man brings hope. Hopes and positive wishes rest on the support and friendship he gives. He is seen as an ally.
Bottom Row, Outcome:
Lilies: This deck implies purity, happiness and good character for the Lily, but I usually read it as being about age, maturity, experience and wisdom, history, something that’s developed over a long time. It can also sometimes, according to French associations, represent an older man. And of course, there’s an association with peace.
Mountain: An obstacle, an enemy.
Ring: Bonds, agreements, promises, deals.
Together, these cards suggest a deal or bond for a lifetime, or one with someone older, around an enemy or obstacle, something or someone in the way. They could also suggest the enemy getting in the way of a long history, or of peace, and that deals and agreements will be vehemently opposed by the enemy.
Reading the cards diagonally, we have a man riding in and being held in high regard in terms of a promise or deal (Gentleman-Rider/Moon-Ring) and doing so to reiterate his support or a friendship that has lasted and been held in esteem for a very long time (Dog-Rider/Moon-Lilies). The Lilies might also hint at the peace brought long-term by the alliance.
Vertically, we get a Gentleman who is old or with a long history (Lilies), we get the hopes and dreams of essentially the esteemed cavalry riding in, the big guns (Stars-Rider/Moon) to defeat the enemy or obstacle (Mountain). And in many ways to formalise or promise his allegiance (Dog-Ring).
So I think it’s pretty clear that this one IS definitely about Nato, Biden and his visit, ahead of this week’s first anniversary of Putin’s war against Ukraine, to both Ukraine and neighbouring Poland (with obvious nods to the historical significance of that), with visits to Nato countries and Nato itself on the agenda.
The news is of an older, senior man who’s held in high esteem sweeping into a situation, and his support bringing hope. A lot rests on his allegiance and friendship. There is a long-lasting, historical alliance and agreement regarding peace and fending off a major enemy or obstacle. He is riding in as “the big guns” to reiterate his support for a formal alliance that has been held in high regard for a very long time.
