Wednesday: The "Wicked" Older Woman Apparently Waiting: Who Is She & What Is She Anticipating?
Wednesday 17th April 2024
Talking of “witches” (which these cards, or their manufacturers at least often did,) the “bad” or wicked woman—or someone seen as that— was often a trope in these 19th century cards. We had quite a few male cads and rotters showing up in card decks too, of course, but it was the supposedly “bad” and unvirtuous women who most often got it in the neck.
Now, Monday’s spread featured a curious figure—the “bad” or supposedly spiteful older woman, the reversed version of the Old Woman from the Sibillia della Zingara. We were told that there was a positive movement or progress in some way around her coming and something better she, whoever she was, was now anticipating. So today, I wanted to take a closer look, using the somewhat terrifying (although maybe rightfully furious, who knows?), Angry Woman (or “Wicked Woman”) card from the Sibylle des Salons or Indovina (I’m using the Indovina version today).
Sibillas, like Kipper cards, include an array of characters outside the “main” significators. Take a look at the other People cards who appear in the the Sibilla Indovina/Sibylle des Salons deck here:
Today, we’re just doing a simple Cross spread with our so-called Angry Woman at the centre. It shows us her past and future influences, as well as conscious and unconscious ones.
Here’s how the cards around her fell:
The Cards
City House (R), Thief (R), Dark-Haired Woman/Leisure; Angry Woman; Lawyer, Delay, Waiting, Gamblers; Country House, Anger, Reconciliation
