Wednesday: Corrupt Institutions? Sibylle des Salons Claim "The Worst" & Warn Against Being Over-Idealistic
Wednesday 14th August 2024
To continue the theme of looking into corruption, bad actors (no not the Raspberry-winning kind, I mean bad-faith actors and malign influencers) along with negative influences and structures, today I’m using the French Sibylle des Salons by Grimaud (2022 updated version) to explore institutions to see what, if anything, the cards have to say. Quite a lot, as it turns out! Read my introduction to this classic mid 19th century deck to find out more about it:
Now, as yesterday, I’m using a card in the reversed position, but this time, it’s not a person, it’s the City House. Now, as you may know, this French deck has two “houses”, the City House and the Country House. The City House broadly corresponds with the main House card you’ll find in most oracle decks, and is differentiated from the Country House in similar way to the Sibilla and Kipper cards’ House (the public structure, the more official, the outward-facing) versus the (Family) Room (the private, the personal, the place to retreat to). Here, the City House represents structures and buildings, institutions, stability; everything that gives you a solid foundation in life, a familiar structure and security.
Reversed? Well, it’s the opposite; instability, destruction of the familiar, crumbling or weak, unreliable or undermined core foundations
So the reversed City House is what I’ve placed at the centre of today’s reading, which is basically an ‘expanded’ 9-card spread following the same layout as the Gypsy Witch Short Near & Far Read. We don’t use “Near and Far” meanings for the Sibylle des Salons though, because the deck has reversed meanings. Nonetheless, you can check out that layout here if that interests you:
And get a basic method for reading 9-Card Spreads here:
Anyway. Here is how today’s spread fell, all centred around that “corrupted” institution, with the question “Tell me which institution has become the most corrupted in the current time?” The results may surprise you… or not, as the case may be.
