Sibylle des Salons/Parlour Sibyl/Sibilla Indovina Card Meanings
Here are the main card meanings, including reversals, and images for all the above Sibylle des Salons cards. In terms of the images, the left is the Lo Scarabeo international Sibilla Indovina version, which appears to take the most original design and title, in the middle, the 1979 English version reproduction of that card in the JM Simon “Grimaud Parlour Sibyl”, on the right, the current French Grimaud version of the Sibylle des Salons.
The numberings on the Lo Scarabeo version correspond with the alphabetical listing of the cards in French; the others are grouped in order to according to their suits and then numbered.
Any variations between decks (and sometimes translations) are noted.
Victory (Victoire)
Upright: Victory, a major achievement, triumph, success over adversity, beating the competition, a win, an excellent outcome. It strengthens positive cards (check with them for what the Victory is about) and diminishes the negative impact of negative ones, showing that you’ll be victorious in the end, every cloud has a silver lining.
Reversed: Achieving your goals may be delayed for a time, or victory is short-lived. Overconfidence, be more humble, don’t blow your own trumpet. Success may be reduced.
Similar to: Lenormand Sun.
Playing Card Reference: Five of Clubs
Notes: This differs from the “Success” card in the sense that it is much strengthened and for more major events and goals. There’s a sense that a battle has been won.
Visit (Visite)
Upright: A visit, arrival, an event on its way, a face to face meeting or communication, phone call, conversation. Pleasant meeting. A trip, courteous and charming people.
Reversed: People problems, arguments, discord, stirring up problems. Plans are delayed. General unreliability, cancellation, false hope, someone being seductive or salesy.
Similar to: Elements of the Lenormand Birds, but also
Rider. Kipper Meeting.
Playing Card Reference: Jack of Hearts
Notes: n/a
