While there has previously been a male Protector figure involved, ahead can be a lot of money having to be shelled out (Lot of Money R) or it turning out that things are looking deceptively better than they actually are.

It seems this male Protector figure (who seems likely to be a sweet-talking politician) may have been giving “Presents” or even just benefiting himself, which cause money to be lost.
