Thursday: A Man Who Makes Out He's Protective, An Angry Woman, But Trouble Getting Away
Thursday August 3rd 2023
For today’s reading, which is just a quick one, we’re using the international Sibilla Indovina version of the famous French Sibylle des Salons, or Parlour Sibyl, which was originally created in the 1840s and has retained its original design. Who was the “Sibyl” it was referring to? Why, Paris’s own Mlle Lenormand, of course! Although this deck is VERY different from Petit Lenormand cards, and bears no relation to them at all. It’s interesting, though, that it was created at the same time as the Lenormand-rebranded Game of Hope decks, in the decade that Mlle Lenormand died.
Anyway, you can access all 52 card meanings (plus reversals) for this lovely evocative deck here:
The cards for today fell as follows. I have Trump as my significator here, the Male Consultant, and am using the layout known as Le Conseil de Penelope, suggested by Grimaud in their version of this deck.
The Cards
Angry Woman, Visit, The Consultant, Impediment, Trip To The Country, Protector, Love (R)
The Reading
Here, we have our Consultant at the centre, with the factors leading up to his current situation behind him, the factors ahead in front, his thoughts or the conscious issues above, and the unconscious below.
What we see here is a woman or women he categorises as angry, raging or crazy in the background (Angry Woman), coming together with others, having face to face meetings and communication (Visit). But ahead, something is coming up on his path, a hindrance, complication or obstacle to get past or find his way around (Impediment) and that’s stopping him from being able to “get a break”, to get away from things (Trip To The Country).
Above him, you have his conscious thoughts or persona. He’s like “What, me?” and positioning himself as a kind of innocent Protector figure, only doing his best. But beneath, we see what’s driving things unconsciously. The Love card in reverse; a lack of love, a lack of feeling love, a lost relationship, perhaps a desire to be loved, but a failure at a deep level.
If we were to pair the mirrored cards, we’d get his wanting to escape (Trip to the Country) from “The Angry Woman” (or the consequences she brings), and an hindrance caused by her meetings with and his relations with other people (Visit, Impediment). Meanwhile, the fake innocent “Protector” persona is disguising a deep lack of love, genuine emotion or compassionate feeling (Love R).
A man who will try to present himself as an innocent protector figure is deeply lacking in love or human emotion. He will characterise his situation as one of a man escaping a crazy mad person, probably a woman or women who he claims has been meeting with and influencing others. Ahead, he comes up against an obstacle or hindrance that he’ll try to find a way around in order to escape and get away from it. He wants to escape the “angry woman” and the consequences she brings as well as the hindrance caused by her involvement with other people. “Who me?” he’ll say, but all the while, he has a deep lack and a failure to be loved.
