This Week: Upset With News Of An Official Visit Bringing Disdain, With Negativity Turning To Praise
Monday 27th March 2023
The deck I’m using for today’s 9-card read is the latest French Grimaud version of the Sibylle des Salons.
In terms of translations the deck does have some slight differences from Lo Scarabeo’s Indovina version, which appears to have been based on an earlier version of the original. A few of the cards have had their titles adjusted or updated, for instance (especially the people cards), although in most cases this gives better clarity to the card meanings.
For example, as below, the centre card that the Indovina for some reason translates as “Infantilism (Chagrin, Larmes)” here is just called “Chagrin”, which does fit the actual card meaning better.
The Cards
Infantilism/Sorrow (Chagrin, Larmes): Sadness, tears, loss
Trap (Piège): Blockage, isolation
Military/Soldier (Militaire): Military, security, discipline
Visit (Visite): Face to face communication, rendezvous
Malady (Maladie): Sickness, toxicity
A Letter (Lettre): News
Fright/Death (Morte): Death, ending
Anger/Disdain (Dépit): Disdain, spite
Flattery: Praise
The Reading
At the centre here, then, we have an upset of some kind (Chagrin), tears or sadness, even something of a tantrum. Around it, we have the Military figure, either an official person, an actual soldier or the sense of discipline and order, and something very wrong or toxic going on (Military-Malady) which brings a sense of disdain, negativity or spite (Malady-Anger) or the negativity or attitude is misplaced. There’ll be news of this or a message which conveys that negativity (Letter-Anger) from either a soldier figure or an official source (Military-Letter).
Centrally, the news is of upset that could well be misplaced (Malady-Sorrow-Letter) or just at the wrongness of it all. It appears to be about the military or officials caught in a situation of face to face communication or on a visit (Trap-Military-Visit), underpinned by a sense that disdain or disgust may come to an end and turn to praise (Death-Anger-Flattery) OR the disgust at an ending may be praised.
Being stuck in a cycle of sickness or wrongness appears to have come to an end one way or another (Trap-Malady-Death), and now there could be a display of sadness and anger, perhaps righteous anger, from an official or the powers-that-be (Military-Sorrow-Anger). Ahead, though, comes news of a visit or face to face communication where it will be all smiles and praise (Visit-Letter-Flatterer).
Diagonally, the cards show a sense of being stuck in a situation of sadness and sorrow over praise, so perhaps constant whingeing is involved (Trap-Sorrow-Flattery), but a visit appears to bring that to an end (Visit-Sorrow-Death).
Knighting the cards for more info, we get the sense of stuckness and isolation and news of anger (Trap, Letter, Anger), and the sickness or toxicity involved bringing praise or flattery (perhaps over-niceness?) face to face (Malady, Visit-Flatterer). The soldier or official may praise for an ending (Military, Death-Flatterer), while anger may still simmer in a face to face visit (Anger, Trap-Visit). the news will be of the impasse coming to an end (Letter, Trap-Death), and it could be that someone is pandered to in an unhealthy way (Flattery, Military, Malady).
Tears or upset with news of a toxic military person or poor organisation or discipline bringing disdain. There’s news of this, where officials or a military figure may be caught or cornered in a face-to-face situation, and anger and disdain may turn to praise and flattery. A cycle of sickness may be drawing to a close, and while now there could be a display of righteous anger from an official, there will come news of a visit where it will be all smiles, although this could simply be a case of pandering in an unhealthy way.
