This Week: Somewhere To Get Away From It All, While There's Surprise Over Amount Of Money Spent On Sweeteners
Week commencing 8th May 2023
Well, it’s good to know that the doom-laden coronation prophecies (mine included) seem to have been wrong so far. (I mean, I like to be right, obviously, but… I was hoping it was only metaphorical and so it has proved to be, rain aside). As such, I missed out the weekly roundup newsletter, but we’ll include it at the end of this week instead.
Update on New Resources & Articles Uploaded Last Week
Just a reminder that new stuff added in the week if you missed it was mostly about starting to compare the decks we’re familiar with (plus one other you may have heard of), ahead of starting to take a much deeper look at the Kipper. Most of these European oracle decks, as you’ll no doubt now realise, are very closely related.

This Week’s Reading
So! New week, new start. And we’re starting with our trusty 9-card layout from the equally trusty Sibylle des Salons.
Here are the cards I drew for the main news of the week upcoming.
Country House; Gamblers; Surprise; Sweet Card; City House; Pensioner; Contrariety/Displeasure; A Lot Of Money; Weakness
And don’t forget, you can access ALL the card meanings, including any reversals, by clicking on the Card Meanings index below.
The Reading
At the heart is a refuge, a place to get away from things, which someone will be doing this week (Country House). Meanwhile, in the city residence or in the structure of the institution, there is surprise, perhaps shock, in store over the wealth or expenditure of an older man (City House, Surprise, A Lot Of Money, Pensioner).
It may also involve surprise at the money involved in places such as the country homes or retreats (Surprise-Country House-A Lot of Money). Sitting above this, we can see gambling or frittering away for fun, perhaps, around this “house” or institution, which causes complaints, disgruntlement and grumbling at this time (Gamblers, City House, Contrariety/Displeasure). Underpinning this, appears to be the sense that that an older, wealthy man, is “sweetening” his maladies or problems in some way, perhaps paying to make problems or ill health go away (Sweet Card-Pensioner-Weakness) or just has an issue with trying to sweeten things, and the risks or gambles that have been taken to make things sweet make comes as a surprise (Gamblers-Surprise-Sweet Card).
Now, the focus is on the institution or family, homes or properties and the wealthy older man (City House-Country House-Pensioner). Ahead, there is disgruntlement over the amount of money involved, which is seen as a weakness or problem for him (Contrariety/Displeasure-A Lot of Money-Weakness).
Diagonally, we can see the game-playing or gambling over the country house or properties as a weakness (Gamblers-Country House-Weakness) and annoyance over it being used as a sweetener or benefit, or given grace and favour (Contrariety/Displeasure-Country House-Sweet Card).
The knighting cards suggest it’s likely to be seen as his being wasteful or frittering away huge amounts of money for fun (Gamblers, A Lot of Money, Pensioner), there appears to be surprise at the annoyance over it and the ‘sickness’ it reveals, or perhaps complaints will be handwaved away as just “people who like to whinge” (Surprise, Contrariety-Weakness). The main complaints over the older wealthy man will be over his wasteful gambling (Pensioner, Gambling-Contrariety), and perhaps surprise over the unhealthiness of it in the institution (Weakness, City House, Surprise).
No surprises for guessing who and what I think this is. I think it’s about Charles, and the focus starting to turn onto Royal finances, as it inevitably will at some point.
While someone gets away from it all, back home, there’s a surprise in store over the wealth of the older man, particularly in terms of country homes or retreats. It seems that there’ll be disgruntlement and complaints over what is seen as the frittering away or ‘playing’ with money around an institution or family. It could be that the wealthy older man has a problem with trying to sweetening things up, and the risks or gambles taken to do so may come as a surprise or shock. Now, the focus is on the properties of the gentleman concerned, which will bring disgruntlement over the amount of money, which is seen as a problem or weakness, particular in terms of the ‘gambling’ or playing around aspect of it, and annoyance over it being used as a benefit or grace and favour. It is seen as this gentleman being wasteful, but the extent of it may come as a surprise and act as an undermining force for him in general.
