The "Draw of Gossip" (aka "Lowdown" or "What's The Goss?" Spread)
My version of the "Tirage Des Cancans": A fun spread for looking at gossip, truthful or otherwise!
This is my version of a spread that’s suggested in the 2022 Grimaud Sibylle des Salons deck, where it’s given the name Tirage des cancans (aka “The Draw Of Gossip”). Here’s how the original looks:
What’s It For?
The original spread is purely for getting to the bottom of what people are saying about YOU at a given time. What they’re saying, what your take on it is, what their take on it is, what the truth is. And then what to do about it, any actions you can take and so on!
However, I’ve found the spread, and especially my much extended Lowdown or “What’s The Goss?” version, to be highly useful for exploring ANY kind of gossip or rumour, whether it’s about me or not, especially when there’s two “sides” with different versions of the story. As you’ll know, there does tend to be more than one side to every story and you get a LOT of this in current affairs right now. So it’s quite a fun spread to use to dig a little deeper into things and look at different angles.
What Decks Can You Use It With?
Any!
But it works particularly well with Sibillas, where you have plenty of events and people cards. Kipper and Zigeuner Fortune Telling Cards work well too.
How Many Cards Does It Use?
In the original suggestion, you use 6 cards only, with one per position.
My version, however, uses 18 cards
