Coming Up This Week: TWO Kinds of Intrigue - A Puzzle, Mystery or Trap PLUS A Message About A Gathering of Enemies
Two readings for the week commencing 31st October 2022
Couldn’t choose between these two readings today but both look interesting, so let’s see! One from Lenormand (Gilded Reverie deck), one from the Vera Sibilla! The question I asked in both cases was “What’s coming up in the news this week?”
Reading 1: A Puzzle, A Book of Secrets: Or Just A Big Old Fake Mess Someone Can’t Get Out Of?
This one looks intriguing. Who or what could this be about, we wonder? My gut feeling is it’s NOT about politics (which I could do with a bit of a break from, tbh, although it’ll keep impinging on us, I’m sure.) It looks kind of gossipy.
Labyrinth: A mystery or puzzle, complication, problem to find the way through
Stars: Ambitions, hopes, dreams, achievements
Book: Secrets, mysteries, knowledge, discovery
Rider: Arrival, visit, delivery, something upcoming
Dice: Risk-taking, gamble
Heart: Love, romance, affection, care
Mask: Something hidden, a persona, falseness, ‘putting a face on it’
Fish: Abundance, enterprise, money, wealth
Bear: Power, protection, material assets
So at the centre of this is the Labyrinth, a puzzle or knot, sometimes a trap, that is difficult to get out of. Has someone tied themselves up and is desperate to try to get out? Reading the cards in a diamond around it, we see a book gamble, or taking the risks on revealing a secret (Book-Dice), gambling for money (Dice-Fish). On the other side of the diamond, we see a secret or hidden love or a book about love (Book-Heart), and the love of money (Heart-Fish).
The cards surrounding the Labyrinth speak of a gamble in love (Dice-Heart) or someone taking risks for love and getting themselves into a mess.
Above it, we can see that an ambition or dream has arrived about a secret—or even a literal book (Stars-Book-Rider)
And beneath it, there is a powerful or forceful mask, a show of power around money and business (Mask-Fish-Bear). Perhaps someone’s playing far ‘bigger’ than they are.
The situation leading up to this seems a bit “fake it til you make it”, taking a gamble on a veneer of big ambition and stardom (Stars-Dice-Mask). This is followed by what could be a secret network of money, a secret hidden stash, perhaps, or again, a literal book for money around an what is an intricate mess (Book-Labyrinth-Fish). Ahead seems to be the love of power, although more generously, it could represent love and mutual protection (Rider-Heart-Bear).
Diagonally, we see an ambitious network (the corridors?) of power and strength (Stars-Labyrinth) and in the other direction, news of what’s likely to be complex false faces or roles employed (Rider-Labyrinth-Mask). Spies and intrigue?
Knighting each card for more info, we can see the ambitious or star-level love and money (Stars, Heart, Fish), Risk-taking or gamble as a power play (Dice, Rider-Bear). A mask or veneer relating to a secret and to love, a book cover, a loving veneer (Mask, Book, Heart). A secret or knowledge, a book brings a powerful or protective veneer (Book, Mask-Bear). There is news or delivery of “star money”, big money (Fish, Star-Rider). Love or a romance and an ambitious mask or a “Hollywood face” (Heart, Stars-Mask). And finally, power, strength and protection, through a secret gamble or taking a risk with a book (Bear, Book, Dice).
Ooh! Don’t know about you but I get a strong feeling this is about Harry and his forthcoming tell-all book, Spare. But we will see. Summary below:
An intricate mystery or a mess someone can’t get out of? A book of secrets, star-level gambles, power-plays, money and a whole lot of fakeness, putting a “face” on things.
Oh, and if you have got the Gilded Reverie Lenormand, and you’re stuck on extra cards like the Labyrinth, I’ve put together an 80pp “Extra Card Combinations” downloadable PDF, yours for $5.99, for combos for the extra cards in this deck and one other. Interested? Click below!
Reading 2: A Reunion of Enemies, Plot
Seems appropriate for Guy Fawkes week, so let’s see. This seems likely to be a more political story from the Vera Sibilla. I love how direct these cards are, don’t you? This deck can be read using reversals, btw, but I’m sticking with uprights on here for now.
Thoughts/Thinking: Thinking, what’s on someone’s mind
The Reunion: A reunion or gathering
The Maid/Servant: A servant, someone who is serving or looking after someone else.
Fidelity: Loyalty, support, ally
The Priest: A higher or official power; legal matters
Cheerfulness: Good cheer, joy
A male enemy: A male enemy!
Letter: Message or news
Fortune: Good luck
So at the centre of the reading is Thought. Someone is in contemplation, thinking or considering. What about? Well, in the diamond around the centre card, we see thoughts about a servant’s loyalty (Servant, Fidelity), bringing cheer and happiness (Fidelity, Cheerfulness). Whoever it is also brings or sends a message of cheer (Servant, Letter, Cheer).
In the centre, we see someone thinking about a message pledging loyalty or support (Fidelity, Thought, Message). It may also be that we get news of this. From the cards above, it also looks as though they’re thinking about enemies are gathering or reuniting to ‘serve’ (Reunion, Servant, Male Enemy). These could be a group of male enemies, or they could be reuniting to serve The male enemy of whoever the thinker is.
These thoughts, the cards tell us, are underpinned by the Good Fortune of a higher power, a person in a senior position or officialdom or an influential figure (Priest) which is bringing joy and good cheer, at least in some circles (Cheerfulness).
We can see that whoever’s thinking about it knows there’s been a gathering of those faithful to the influential person or cause (Reunion, Fidelity, Priest), and is thinking that their “service” brings cheer and celebration (Servant, Thought, Cheerfulness). Ahead is a male enemy’s pledge or message of good fortune (Male Enemy, Letter, Fortune).
Reading the cards diagonally, we see that the Thinker is considering that the gathering will bring luck (Reunion, Thought, Fortune) and that there is an “enemy figure”, perhaps a spokesman or high-placed influencer (Male Enemy, Thought, Priest)
Reading the knighting cards for more info, we see that the gathering involves a message, perhaps an invite, and good cheer (Reunion, Letter, Cheerfulness), and that there’ll be loyalty to a male enemy which brings good luck (Fidelity, Male Enemy, Fortune). The “priest”, or influential figure, gives or writes a servant’s message (Priest, Servant, Message), which brings cheer to an enemy gathering (Cheerfulness, Reunion, Enemy). The male enemy’s allies are cheered (Male Enemy, Fidelity, Cheerfulness), and the message involves a gathering of “priest figures” or influencers (Letter, Reunion, Priest). Good fortune for those in service who show loyalty (Fortune, Servant, Fidelity).
Someone is thinking about a gathering of enemies, willing to serve after a message from an influential figure that brings cheer.
