Sibylle des Salons/Parlour Sibyl/Sibilla Indovina Card Meanings
Here are the main card meanings, including reversals, and images for all the above Sibylle des Salons cards. In terms of the images, the left is the Lo Scarabeo international Sibilla Indovina version, which appears to take the most original design and title, in the middle, the 1979 English version reproduction of that card in the JM Simon “Grimaud Parlour Sibyl”, on the right, the current French Grimaud version of the Sibylle des Salons.
The numberings on the Lo Scarabeo version correspond with the alphabetical listing of the cards in French; the others are grouped in order to according to their suits and then numbered.
Any slight variations between decks (and sometimes translations) are noted.
Chattering/Gossip (Caquets)
Upright: Gossip, smalltalk, chatter, what is being said behind your back, being laughed at. Rumours. Damaging a reputation. Watch out for gossips.
Reversed: Revealed truth, return of karma, suppressed rumour. Lack of respect for privacy, nosiness.
Similar to: There are elements of the Lenormand Birds to this but (see Notes, below) it’s usually a little more malicious or salacious than that.
Playing Card Reference: Seven of Diamonds
Notes: Note the “Little bird” in the cage above the women. The card has the“A little bird told me” kind of energy. The direct translation is “Cackles’ so it also has that enjoyment of spreading gossip and having a laugh about it.
