A Surprise On Its Way This Week: Bohemian Cards Give A Past, Present, Future Reading
Week commencing Monday 29th September 2025
For today’s “week ahead” spread, and the last big one we’ll be doing with the Bohemian cards for now, another useful “general” spread called the Three Faces of Time, which focuses on past, present and future influences.
You can find out how to lay and read it here - note that it traditionally has a different shuffling and choosing method than usual.
Here’s how the cards, this time the Austrian Piatnik version, fell.
The Cards (to be read bottom to top, right to left)
Ecclesiastic, Constancy, House, Fortune, Sweetheart; Jealousy, Widower, Surprise, Misfortune, Thief; Thought, Love, Fidelity, Marriage, Death
The Reading
First of all, we can see that there’s a BIG surprise apparently on the way that’s at the heart of this reading (Unexpected Joy) - although I wouldn’t be sure it’s going to be exactly joyful.
In essence, it appears to involve a situation of loyalty or affiliation, perhaps, that comes as an enormous surprise to “those at home”, so to a household, a domestic sphere, a particular family or the homeland (Fidelity, Unexpected Joy, House). Something here is likely to be unearthed this week.
There does appear to be a religious, spiritual or godly background to this; you have the priest and the all-seeing eye (Ecclesiastic, Constancy), or a sense of moral certainty that’s been overseeing a particular place, a family or a homeland (House) bringing luck to her (Fortune, Sweetheart), a woman, or female-named figure.
But now, there is jealousy, the envy of an older or senior man (Jealousy, Widower) which will bring a surprise (Unexpected Joy) - and it appears to be a disastrous one, where everything comes crashing down and is lost or stolen away (Misfortune, Thief).
Ahead? Well, after that, we have thoughts of love and passion (Thought, Love) and a passionate loyalty (Love, Fidelity) to a bond or relationship that is cemented (Fidelity, Marriage) but into Death. Something ends. Something - or someone - dies. And there’s an intensity to this, as if it’s all about the ‘belief’ or the thoughts of intense loyalty involved,
Diving in further, I can see that diagonal to that Misfortune card, we have Death and a House. A big ending or death domestically or close to home and on the other side, a “loyal” destruction of a female figure (Fidelity, Misfortune, Sweetheart).
Once again, we have the Widower and Ecclesiastic together (interesting as they showed up with the different deck yesterday and all through last week) and you have loyalty showing between them this time (Fidelity, Widower, Ecclesiastic). There’s loyalty between an older man and a priestly, moral or spiritual one. And the senior man will be thinking about matters close to home (Thought, Widower, House).
If we read the columns down from right to left, we get thoughts of jealousy involving the “moral” or spiritual leader figure (Thought, Jealousy, Ecclesiastic) with the love of an older man apparently all-encompassing, or ever-watched (Love, Widower, Constancy). Then we have our surprise loyalty on the home front, plus a wedding to destruction that brings an opportunity or chance situation, perhaps bad rather than good luck since it’s being poured away (Marriage, Misfortune, Fortune). And then there’s a death or ending and the theft from a female figure (Death, Thief, Sweetheart).
What else? We can also pair the cards end to end. This gives us an ending or death involving a moral or priest figure (Death, Ecclesiastic) and a kind of “bond to all things” (Marriage, Constancy) that involves loyalty to what is close to home (Fidelity, House). A love opportunity may be discarded (Love, Fortune) and there are thoughts or beliefs at work regarding a female figure (Thought, Sweetheart). Meanwhile, envy involves stealing something away (Thief, Jealousy) and bringing destruction or disaster for a senior male figure which comes as a surprise (Misfortune, Widower; Unexpected Joy).
So there we have it. Let’s see, eh?
